According to SBS Entertainment News, director and screenwriter Lee Jung-sub was reported to authorities by a legal team representing a coalition of Kim Soo-hyun’s fans. The law firm, Doa, confirmed that it received a notice from the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul stating that the case was being forwarded to prosecutors after investigators determined there were grounds for the charges.
The complaint alleges that Lee spread statements on social media that described Kim Soo-hyun as a “child sex offender,” which the accusers claim severely damaged the actor’s reputation. Police reportedly concluded that the allegations warranted prosecution. However, the referral does not indicate guilt, as prosecutors will now review the case and determine whether to formally indict Lee.

Lee has continued to post online about controversies surrounding Kim Soo-hyun and the film Real, as well as allegations connected to the late actress Kim Sae-ron. He also raised claims suggesting collusion among the entertainment industry, media, and legal circles. In several posts, Lee reportedly shared other users’ accusations about Kim Soo-hyun while adding remarks such as “the same operation.”
Previously, Lee commented on the production process of Real, noting that he did not have official standing to provide explanations because he was not credited as the film’s director. The 2017 movie faced production difficulties after Lee stepped down during its final stages.
The broader controversy intensified following the sudden death of Kim Sae-ron on February 2. Her bereaved family later made allegations through a YouTube channel, including claims related to underage dating. Kim Soo-hyun’s side has denied the accusations and has since filed lawsuits for defamation, false accusation, and stalking law violations. The actor has also launched a civil lawsuit reportedly seeking damages worth approximately 12 billion KRW.
The outcome of Lee Jung-sub’s case will depend on the prosecution’s investigation and legal interpretation moving forward.
