Body image is a sensitive topic.
Recently, aespa have faced a variety of backlash over the supposed promotion of bad habits.

Since their debut, netizens have noticed visual changes among the members, including weight loss. Ningning was the first to have her transformation noticed, but in the last year, some have expressed concern over her and Giselle‘s weight changes.
Aespa’s Giselle Triggers Extreme Concern With Latest Instagram Posts
A post on X made by an individual on “tteokbokki twt” recently highlighted comments made by Giselle during a behind the scenes video. In the post, screenshots of Giselle saying that Winter didn’t eat anything that day, saying it was “good self-management” were shared.

The post presented in this way was met with backlash, accusing aespa of “promoting eating disorders,” with some directly criticizing the group’s physical appearances.
Besides the obvious eating disorder of those three Aespa members, if you have to force yourself to starve yourself to be thin, it means you’re not naturally thin, and that’s all. Why don’t you accept your body? They’re promoting eating disorders to younger fans it’s so disgusting https://t.co/F3quKk6Jdt

While concern over potentially dangerous eating habits would be understandable, the post leaves out important context.
In the video, Giselle first begins by saying she was going to share what she had eaten that day, before the comments were made with what appears to be a sarcastic inflection. Winter laughs and asks if that was “what it is,” and the conversation goes to the two discussing pizza Giselle ate that day.
Fans came to the group’s defense, pushing back against the allegations of promoting unsafe dieting methods.
“aespa openly promotes ed” they always talk about how they love food and how important it is to be healthy but your stupid ass will take two words out of context to spread your sick false narrative

In this context, giselle was being sarcastic because winter was working too much and didn’t have time to eat, after which they had an open conversation about food https://t.co/ErW7Mx1NHV pic.twitter.com/voXsRUH4bZ

It is only important to note that no diagnosis should be assumed, and that industry expectations can contribute to concerning behaviors concerning body image, something that netizens often worry over.
