On November 11, Oh Yeon Soo posted a video titled “1st Anniversary of My YouTube Channel / Just an Ordinary Birthday” on her channel. In the video, she directly addressed the growing criticism towards celebrity YouTubers, stating, “The purpose of my channel was never to show off to others, and I’m definitely not an attention seeker.”
She further explained, “I started YouTube with the idea of turning my daily life into a visual diary. I understand that some people may find parts of it uncomfortable or disagree with my perspective. But no matter what others say, I intend to stick to my original concept. This is the format I chose, and I will continue at my own pace, just like I have so far.”
Oh Yeon Soo added that she views her channel as a personal album she can revisit later in life, “Something I can look back on when I’m older, something I can watch from anywhere in the world as long as I have internet access.”
Reflecting on her content journey, she shared, “As I look through the gallery of my videos, I’ve been thinking about whether I truly put my heart into this video diary over the past year. And I can confidently say that my original intention has not changed at all.”
She also mentioned touching viewer comments that encouraged her to stay true to herself: “There were comments that really stuck with me. They said, ‘Don’t try to improve,’ ‘Don’t bother with expensive cameras,’ ‘The way you are right now is best,’ and ‘Please don’t change.’ Those words gave me a warm sense of comfort and affection.”
Concluding the video, she promised to continue creating content as she originally intended: “Though I’m not perfect, I’ll stick to my original vibe. I’ll maintain a balance nothing excessive or lacking sharing my emotions and pace, and enjoying YouTube without stress.”
Oh Yeon Soo has been married to actor Son Ji Chang since 1998, and they have two sons.
