HYBE recently unveiled the final lineup for its upcoming girl group, but the announcement has already sparked intense online criticism.
The group, called SAINT SATINE, officially completed its lineup with 16-year-old member Sakura.
However, shortly after the reveal, the young idol became the center of controversy when details about her childhood and education began circulating online.
A clip from a program drew particular attention after Sakura’s mother reportedly explained that her daughter had not attended school consistently since around third grade, which is typically when children are about eight or nine years old.
According to the discussion in the clip, Sakura eventually stopped regularly attending classes altogether while focusing on training from a very young age.

Some viewers questioned whether the idol may have continued her education through homeschooling or alternative programs. However, many netizens reacted with anger and concern after hearing the story.
Online comments criticized both the entertainment industry and Sakura’s parents, with some arguing that children should not leave traditional education so early to pursue idol careers.

Others expressed worry about the pressures placed on young trainees, with several comments claiming the situation highlighted how minors in the entertainment industry can become vulnerable to exploitation.
The controversy has also reignited broader debates surrounding underage idols, intense trainee systems, and the sacrifices many young performers make in pursuit of debuting in K-pop.
