Actor Lee Jun-hyuk has confirmed his appearance in SBS’s upcoming drama “Awakening” (tentative title), delivering welcome news roughly a year after gaining attention for his chemistry with Han Ji-min in a previous project.
“Awakening” is an occult exorcism drama set in a brutal academic environment obsessed with grades. The story follows students who become tempted by mysterious awakening drugs meant to boost academic performance, only to develop terrifying abilities that allow them to hear the voices of the dead as classmates begin to die one by one. Amid this “exam hell” turned playground for evil spirits, an exorcist priest risks his soul to save the students.

In the drama, Lee Jun-hyuk plays Antonio, a newly appointed guidance priest at Holy Spirit High School. While he initially appears to be a figure who stirs curiosity and unease among students, Antonio is in fact an officially ordained exorcist dispatched by the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. As strange incidents escalate, he throws everything on the line to track down the force pulling students into a deadly race.
“Awakening” marks Lee Jun-hyuk’s first time taking on an occult genre role. He has previously showcased a wide acting range through dramas such as “Designated Survivor: 60 Days” and various film projects, raising expectations for a new side of his performance. The SBS drama “Awakening” is scheduled to air next year.
