On the January 7 preview of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, Kwon Sang Woo appeared to mark his 25th debut anniversary and spoke candidly about his career, iconic scenes, and his children.
Kwon revisited the legendary “hermit crab” scene from 2005, explaining that it was actually meant to be a powerful moment. He recalled filming overnight at a ski resort before crowds arrived, describing the scene as one where his character hides his face under a hat to suppress tears after seeing his former lover with someone else. “The tears falling through the hat were the key point,” he said, adding that the director gave him a thumbs‑up immediately after filming. Though the scene later became a meme, Kwon admitted he was impressed by it at the time.

The conversation then turned to his family. Kwon shared that his son is now 17 and his daughter 11, noting with a hint of sadness that his children are growing up fast and no longer respond much to his playful teasing. He said his daughter shows little interest in his work, while his son reacted casually upon seeing his father’s movie poster while out with friends, simply saying, “Looks like Dad has a movie out.”

Opening up emotionally, Kwon admitted he sometimes feels a sense of pity when thinking about his son. “I don’t have a role model for what being a father should be, because I never experienced it myself,” he shared. “I’m a dad for the first time too, so I think I was more clumsy raising my son than my daughter.”

He also spoke fondly about his marriage to actress Son Tae Young, bringing laughter with stories of their easygoing relationship and joking about their “magic words” that help them avoid fights. Kwon concluded with an honest confession that as he gets older, every new project feels like he’s standing on the edge of a cliff revealing both the pressure and passion that continue to drive him as an actor.
