K-pop fans are reacting strongly to KATSEYE Yoonchae’s recent announcement of a project with TXT’s Yeonjun, citing concerns about sexualization of a minor idol.
Since her debut, discussions around the sexualization of Yoonchae have been controversial due to her young age. The latest announcement, however, has intensified the debate.
The collaboration comes ahead of Gayo Daejeon, a major year-end music show featuring unexpected idol collaborations. Fans speculated that Yoonchae would perform “Let Me Tell You”, previously performed by Yeonjun and KATSEYE’s Daniela, which drew attention for their on-stage chemistry.
However, netizens criticized the announcement, highlighting concerns over suggestive choreography and the age gap between Yoonchae and Yeonjun. While Yoonchae just turned 18, many pointed out that she is still legally a minor in Korea, making the sexualized concept highly controversial.
Fans expressed outrage, stating that it is inappropriate to present such a performance immediately after Yoonchae reaches adulthood, emphasizing the need to protect young idols from exploitative concepts.
The issue surrounding Yoonchae being sexualized remains a hot topic in K-pop communities, with debates continuing online regarding idol safety and age-appropriate performance concepts.
