The 13-member K-pop group Seventeen announced a surprise partnership with the iconic animated franchise “The Smurfs” on October 23.
Peyo Company, the parent company managing “The Smurfs” intellectual property, teamed up with HYBE and Pledis Entertainment to create the collaboration. The project will officially launch in November 2025, with fans already buzzing over the unlikely pairing.
“The Smurfs” revealed the collaboration through a teaser film that appeared across social media platforms. The promotional video featured silhouettes of “The Smurfs” characters appearing one by one while playing the instrumental version of Seventeen’s hit single “God of Music.” This strategic choice coincides with two significant anniversaries: the 67th anniversary of “The Smurfs” franchise and the second anniversary of “God of Music,” the title track from Seventeen’s 11th mini album Seventeenth Heaven.
The timing of the announcement has not gone unnoticed by fans. Many observed that Seventeen’s latest project was being unveiled precisely on the second anniversary of their Seventeenth Heaven release, sparking speculation that the upcoming collaboration may feature creative elements or content connected to that album cycle.
“The Smurfs” franchise has experienced a major resurgence in recent years. The animated film “Smurfs,” featuring Rihanna as the voice of Smurfette, premiered globally in summer 2025 through Paramount Pictures. The movie is now available on various platforms, including Paramount+, digital services, and streaming outlets. The film features an ensemble cast that includes James Corden, Nick Offerman, Amy Sedaris, Sandra Oh, Kurt Russell, and John Goodman, among others.
Seventeen, comprised of S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, The 8, Mingyu, DK, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino, has established itself as a major force in the global music industry. The group operates through a distinctive structure featuring three units: hip-hop, vocal, and performance, allowing members to showcase specialized talents while maintaining their cohesive identity as a complete ensemble.
The collaboration marks another instance of K-pop groups expanding into international brand partnerships and cross-cultural projects. Details regarding the exact nature of the Smurfs-Seventeen collaboration remain largely undisclosed, with the promise of full details arriving in November. The announcement comes as Seventeen simultaneously prepares to unveil their 10th anniversary documentary series “Seventeen: Our Chapter,” which will premiere on November 7 on Disney+, marking a busy promotional period for the group.
