An armed man broke into the home of Nana, a 34-year-old actress and former member of K-pop girl group After School, in Guri, a city east of Seoul, early Saturday morning.
The intruder, wielding a weapon, threatened both Nana and her mother while demanding money from the residence.
Nana and her mother engaged in a physical struggle with the intruder after he forced his way into their home around 6 a.m. on November 15. The suspect had reportedly used a pre-prepared ladder to climb up to the unlocked veranda of the residence. During the altercation, the intruder choked Nana’s mother, causing her to lose consciousness. Nana sustained injuries while attempting to escape the dangerous situation. Despite the threat posed by the armed attacker, the two victims managed to subdue him by overpowering and restraining him during the struggle.
After successfully subduing the intruder, Nana and her mother immediately contacted the police. Officers arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect, a man in his 30s. He was taken to a hospital for treatment after sustaining injuries during the confrontation, including a laceration to his chin and jaw area. Both Nana and her mother were also transported to the hospital for medical attention. Her mother regained consciousness, and both women required continued treatment and rest.
Authorities charged the suspect with special aggravated robbery causing injury. According to police investigations, the man randomly selected Nana’s home for robbery without knowing it belonged to a celebrity. He allegedly chose the residence after observing an open door at the luxury villa complex. During questioning, he stated that he committed the crime because he had no money to live on, lacked stable employment, and was unaware of the residence’s occupant.
The Uijeongbu District Court Namyangju Branch issued an arrest warrant for the suspect, citing concerns over flight risk. Police said they plan to refer him to prosecutors for potential indictment once the investigation is complete. According to Nana’s agency, both she and her mother are receiving treatment and require absolute rest to recover from their injuries. The incident has drawn significant public attention, with many expressing shock at how Nana and her mother managed to overpower an armed intruder themselves, highlighting their courage in a life-threatening situation.
