“So she basically spent her entire paycheck on her outfits?”
You And Everything Else lead actress Park Ji Hyun revealed the reason she had to buy all her outfits for her role of Sang Yeon—and the extensive shopping list has since left the viewers stunned.

In an interview about the Netflix K-Drama, the actress explained that she “couldn’t get any sponsorships,” as is the case for most pre-produced K-Dramas, so she had to buy everything herself. To portray Sang Yeon, especially as a successful and wealthy woman in her 40s, Park Ji Hyun needed a luxurious wardrobe.

I discussed it a lot with the costume team. Styling for her 20s and 30s was important, but I thought her 40s look mattered most. I referenced the fashion of successful women I know. I personally bought various clothes and accessories with my own money—even the suitcase, scarf, watch, and earrings.

The actress admitted that, while it was stressful at times, she overall enjoyed the process.
I like that kind of detail. Sometimes I wonder if I’ve gone overboard, but when people tell me I really looked like a woman in her 40s and that the outfits were perfect, I feel proud on the inside. Honestly, I don’t normally wear flashy luxury brands. I usually live in sweatpants. But maybe I’ll reuse the clothes someday. My closet is turning into a costume room. I keep telling myself I should stop if I ever want to save money, but it’s hard to quit… In a way, I think that’s my hobby. Styling myself according to references helps me both as an actress and in terms of visuals.

When asked which of the items she bought for Sang Yeon was the most expensive, she pointed out the the Patek Philippe Nautilus watch—with a price tag known to be well over ₩100 million KRW (about $71,000 USD).
I don’t wear it now, I just keep it safely.
