Amid the chaos of a fire on November 26 in Tai Po, Hong Kong, the bravery of a Filipino domestic helper captured widespread attention. Rhodora Alcaraz, who had just arrived in Hong Kong a few days earlier, was trapped inside the apartment along with her employers and a 3-month-old infant. As flames spread, she reportedly called her sister in the Philippines for help.
When firefighters reached her and transported her to United Christian Hospital, Alcaraz was still tightly holding the baby in her arms, refusing to let go even in the face of danger. Her courage during the life-threatening incident moved many.

A doctor from the intensive care unit confirmed that Alcaraz remains in critical condition and is currently intubated. She may be transferred to another hospital once her condition stabilizes.
The Hong Kong Fire Services Department stated that search and rescue operations are expected to conclude on Friday, November 28, as firefighters continue combing through the rubble to locate any remaining victims. The residential complex, consisting of eight towers housing over 4,600 residents, is undergoing renovations and covered with scaffolding and green netting after the fire rapidly spread on Wednesday afternoon.
The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong noted that they have not yet received official reports of Filipino casualties or injuries but warned that due to the scale of the disaster, verification may take time.
