As the cover star of Vogue Germany’s November 2025 issue, Dakota Johnson shared her perspective on red carpet fashion, revealing her particular passion for delicate, sheer designs.
These daring ensembles have frequently landed the Fifty Shades of Grey actress on lists of Hollywood’s best-dressed stars. In response to comments suggesting that, at 36, she should dress more conservatively, Dakota Johnson candidly stated: “I honestly don’t care.”

She also emphasized that not every bold design works for her. Suitability depends on fit, material, color, and other factors. If she finds a dress that she loves and feels comfortable wearing, Dakota says she will confidently wear it.
“Also, wearing a sexy dress is fun,” she added with a smile.
Dakota credits her upbringing for fostering a healthy body image. As the daughter of actress Melanie Griffith, she recalls her mother being especially open about body positivity, teaching her children to care for, love, and trust their own bodies.
“That was a huge gift for me as a young girl, especially in a world that constantly tells you you’re not enough,” Dakota shared.

Currently, Dakota is considered one of Hollywood’s most enthusiastic champions of sheer fashion. In mid-September, she caught attention wearing a daring see-through Gucci gown that exposed a color-matched inner bodysuit, skillfully highlighting her curves.
Earlier, in June, following her split from long-term boyfriend Chris Martin, Johnson turned heads on the streets of New York in a black sheer ensemble featuring a $775 bodysuit and $707 tulle midi skirt by Nensi Dojaka, paired with a $2,950 Gucci Jackie 1961 bag.
At the premiere of Madame Web in Los Angeles, she dazzled in a custom Gucci mesh gown, almost entirely sheer, accentuating her figure in a subtle yet striking way.

During Milan Fashion Week 2023, Dakota attended a Gucci show in a GG Tulle bodysuit with diamond patterns and the signature Gucci logo. Layered with a matching blazer and mini skirt, the semi-sheer outfit balanced allure with sophistication, earning praise from fashion enthusiasts.
When embracing sheer fashion, Dakota often opts for neutral tones, particularly black, combining mystery and sensuality. Whether she adds a cover-up or not, her confidence and poise consistently enhance her look, inspiring fashion lovers to explore daring styles themselves.
Interestingly, around 2014, searches for “cheap clothing” began to decline, while searches for “sustainable clothing” surged. In The World Without Waste, Ron Gonen notes that the growing attention to sustainability in fashion has been driven by pioneers like Stella McCartney, Eileen Fisher, and Patagonia’s Yvon Chouinard, reflecting a shift toward conscious, responsible fashion.
