Chinese actor Huang Jingyu has drawn major attention after being officially confirmed as one of the passengers for China’s first commercial space flight, scheduled to take place in 2028.
According to reports, the project is part of a research and experimental program focused on manned suborbital spaceflight for civilians. The mission aims to reach an altitude of approximately 100 kilometers, widely regarded as the boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space. Passengers will briefly experience a microgravity environment for around three to six minutes.

While the cost of the spaceflight experience is reportedly set at 3 million yuan, with a 10% deposit required in advance, participation is far from guaranteed—even for those who can afford it. Candidates must meet extremely strict requirements related to physical fitness, psychological stability, emergency response skills, aerospace knowledge, and teamwork abilities.
Huang Jingyu has been confirmed as having completed registration and passed the program’s initial selection criteria. He has been assigned passenger number 009. Organizers emphasized that his inclusion was not due to celebrity status, but rather his ability to meet the program’s rigorous evaluation standards, which are designed to minimize chance and prioritize suitability.

Selected passengers are expected not only to experience spaceflight, but also to assist in evaluating and collecting data on human physiological conditions and adaptability in near-space environments. The final list includes individuals from diverse fields such as science, business, and culture and entertainment.
Huang Jingyu’s selection is supported by his strong physical background. Born in 1992 into a military family, the actor has maintained a disciplined training routine for many years. He is known for his stable physical condition and has achieved notable results in combat sports competitions, demonstrating a high tolerance for intensive training. Beyond physical strength, he has also been praised for his mental resilience and emotional control under pressure—qualities considered crucial in aerospace environments.

Reports further suggest that Huang Jingyu proactively studied aerospace-related knowledge and participated in professional training programs well ahead of the selection process. He reportedly completed all theoretical assessments, practical training sessions, and comprehensive evaluations required by the program.
Known for roles in dramas such as Addicted, Happiness Within Reach, and The Destiny of White Snake, Huang Jingyu stands out with his 1.87-meter-tall physique and is frequently cast in action-heavy roles and military-themed productions. Outside of acting, he is also a regular participant in physically demanding variety shows.
From action star to future space traveler, Huang Jingyu’s upcoming journey into near space has sparked widespread discussion online, with many netizens praising his discipline and curiosity about science and the universe. If all goes as planned, 2028 may mark a historic milestone not only for China’s commercial space tourism—but also for the actor’s personal career journey beyond Earth.
