Netflix’s live-action One Piece has once again ignited massive buzz online after all 8 episodes of the new season were released on March 10. While viewers are still catching up with the Straw Hat Pirates’ latest adventure, one name has quickly taken over social media: Arata Mackenyu, who plays the legendary swordsman Roronoa Zoro.
Images and clips of Mackenyu in the series have gone viral across multiple platforms. Many fans say the actor looks as if he stepped straight out of the original manga, praising not only his sharp features and intense gaze but also his impressive physique.

Compared with the original character design, many viewers believe Mackenyu is the perfect casting choice for Zoro. One particular moment that has dominated online discussions shows the actor standing on the ship with his arms crossed, revealing broad shoulders and muscular arms under the sunlight. His commanding presence and sculpted body instantly captured attention, with fans joking that they came for the story but stayed for Zoro.
Under posts featuring the actor’s visuals, fans flooded the comments with enthusiastic reactions such as: “How can anyone look away from this?”, “How did he build muscles like that?”, and “This Zoro is a literal god.” Others praised how closely his appearance matches the anime while still bringing a fresh, powerful interpretation of the character.

Beyond his visuals, Mackenyu has also impressed audiences with the series’ intense action sequences. One of the most talked-about scenes appears in Episode 3, where Roronoa Zoro fights hundreds of agents from the Baroque Works organization in a battle lasting nearly 15 minutes.
According to Netflix, Mackenyu revealed that he had only six hours to learn the entire choreography for the fight before filming began. The actor described it as one of the biggest challenges of his career due to the sheer number of movements and the extremely limited preparation time. Despite the pressure, he successfully executed the sequence thanks to his martial arts background and previous experience in action films.
Born in 1996, Arata Mackenyu is already well known among fans of manga and anime adaptations. He is the son of legendary Japanese martial arts actor Sonny Chiba, and he trained in martial arts from a young age. This background allows him to convincingly portray physically demanding roles like Zoro.

In One Piece, Mackenyu plays Roronoa Zoro, the swordsman famous for his Three-Sword Style and the loyal right-hand man of Monkey D. Luffy as the Straw Hat crew searches for the legendary treasure known as the One Piece.
The new season follows the Straw Hat Pirates as they venture deeper into the Grand Line, the most dangerous sea in the pirate world. Along the journey, they visit iconic locations such as Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island, while also encountering key characters including Vivi and Chopper.
With bigger battles, higher stakes, and growing character bonds, the new chapter pushes the crew closer to their dream of finding the ultimate treasure and becoming the King of the Pirates. Meanwhile, thanks to his striking performance, Arata Mackenyu’s Zoro is quickly becoming one of the standout highlights of the season.
