In Chinese entertainment, Gan Wei, Jing Tian, Bai Bing, and Han Xue were famously known as the “Four Beauties of the Capital”—women admired not only for their looks, but also for their elite backgrounds and seemingly charmed lives. They were often described as “flowers born into wealth” within the industry.

But fate dealt Gan Wei a cruel hand. Once admired for marrying a powerful company chairman and stepping away from showbiz to become a wealthy socialite, Gan Wei later revealed that this decision became the most tragic turning point of her life. Abandoned by her husband, burdened with staggering debt, and left to raise three children alone, her fairy tale shattered overnight.
Born in 1984, Gan Wei began acting in 2009 and gained recognition through films such as Kungfu Cyborg, Welcome to Shama Town, and Love Is Not Blind, working alongside major stars including Wu Jing, Hu Jun, and Sun Li. However, compared to the other members of the “Four Beauties,” her acting career lacked a breakout international hit.

In 2008, Gan Wei married Jia Yueting, chairman of LeTV. The couple had three children together. At its peak, LeTV was a dominant force in China’s entertainment and media industry, once valued at 150 billion yuan. With her husband’s backing, Gan Wei launched her own film investment and production company.

In 2014, she invested 20 million yuan in Go Princess Go, a web drama that became a massive hit and generated enormous profits for LeTV. At the time, Gan Wei’s personal assets were estimated at around 600 million USD. Following the drama’s success, she was even dubbed “the queen who gave birth to web dramas” in C‑entertainment. Beautiful, wealthy, capable, and seemingly blissfully married, Gan Wei became an aspirational figure for many Chinese women.

Everything unraveled in 2017 when Jia Yueting’s business empire collapsed. After pouring vast sums into sports ventures and electric vehicle projects, LeTV suffered continuous losses. By early 2019, Jia was officially bankrupt. He resigned, claimed he was traveling abroad for work—and then fled to the United States, leaving Gan Wei and their children behind in China.
The debts Jia left behind were catastrophic. Gan Wei was banned from leaving the country, prohibited from luxury spending, had her assets frozen, and faced relentless legal battles alone. In November 2019, she filed for divorce, citing her husband’s irresponsibility and abandonment.
Gan Wei requested a legal separation of assets and demanded that Jia bear sole responsibility for the debts. However, the court rejected her request, ruling that both spouses shared legal responsibility for debts incurred during the marriage. From the U.S., Jia transferred her 510,000 USD for child support—then disappeared from public view.

Gan Wei later revealed that she was once forced to repay 1.2 billion yuan in just seven days on behalf of her husband. She said she exhausted her savings, borrowed money, and mortgaged assets to settle loans with business partners. “It was the most terrifying period of my life—something I never want to relive,” she admitted.
In May 2025, Gan Wei officially announced that she and Jia Yueting had finalized their divorce. She stated that she received no assets from him and firmly denied rumors that the couple staged their separation to hide a 40‑billion‑yuan fortune.
“We were together for over ten years, but we can no longer move forward together,” Gan Wei said. “I’m grateful for the time we shared. From now on, I will continue my life as a mother, a film producer, and a philanthropist.”
Today, Gan Wei has lost both her reputation and credibility in the entertainment industry. She no longer receives acting offers, and investors refuse to fund her projects. To survive, she has turned to livestream selling. After years of debt repayment, legal pressure, and raising three children alone, the once‑glamorous beauty has visibly aged—her dramatic transformation becoming a stark symbol of how quickly fortune can vanish.
