Earth narrowly escaped destruction in Dragon Ball Super after the planet was nearly erased by the God of Destruction Beerus over a game of rock-paper-scissors.
Earth’s fate hung in the balance when Beerus became furious over a plate of pudding. Fortunately, Goku arrived just in time, and with the help of Shenron, the legendary Super Saiyan God transformation finally became possible.

1. Oolong Loses the Life-or-Death Game of Rock-Paper-Scissors
With the planet facing imminent destruction, the Earth warriors placed all their hopes on Oolong as he challenged Beerus to a game of rock-paper-scissors. The first two rounds ended in a draw, with both contestants choosing scissors, leaving the God of Destruction increasingly irritated.
Oolong’s luck finally ran out in the third round. Beerus chose rock, while Oolong once again picked scissors. His defeat meant that Earth had lost its final chance to avoid destruction peacefully.
2. Beerus Begins Destroying Earth
As soon as the winner was determined, Beerus immediately took to the sky and began gathering a massive purple energy sphere powerful enough to destroy an entire planet. Krillin suggested that he and Piccolo attack together, but Piccolo refused, knowing they stood absolutely no chance against the God of Destruction. Everyone could only watch helplessly as disaster approached.
3. Goku Arrives Just in Time to Save the Day
Fortunately, Goku appeared just before Beerus could unleash his devastating attack. Fully aware of the God of Destruction’s overwhelming power, he chose not to engage him in direct combat. Instead, Goku came up with a plan to fulfill Beerus’ wish and calm him down. To make this happen, he asked Bulma to lend him the Dragon Balls so they could summon Shenron and find a way to bring forth Super Saiyan God. Bulma immediately agreed and quickly gathered all seven Dragon Balls.
4. Shenron Respectfully Explains How to Create Super Saiyan God
Once the summoning ritual was completed, Shenron appeared and invited Goku to make a wish. Notably, the Eternal Dragon respectfully bowed to Beerus, a humorous detail that highlighted the enormous difference in status between the God of Destruction and the Dragon within the universe’s divine hierarchy.
Goku immediately asked Shenron to summon Super Saiyan God if he knew of the transformation’s existence. Shenron explained that the legendary warrior had not yet appeared, but he knew exactly how to create one. According to Shenron, Super Saiyan God could be brought into existence when five Saiyans with pure hearts joined hands and transferred their spirits into a sixth pure-hearted Saiyan. After explaining the ritual, Shenron took his leave, and the seven Dragon Balls scattered across the world once again.
5. Videl Unexpectedly Reveals Her Pregnancy to Complete the Ritual
As the warriors prepared to perform the ritual, they encountered a problem with the number of participants. Piccolo initially questioned why they only had four Saiyans, as he still considered Vegeta a villain. However, Master Roshi and Chi-Chi disagreed, pointing out that Vegeta had changed considerably and had become a good father.
Their first attempt failed because they transferred Ki instead of their spirits. Whis then stepped in to correct them, explaining that the ritual required a total of six Saiyans. Just as everyone was struggling to find the missing participant, Videl bravely stepped forward and revealed that she was carrying Gohan’s child. The unborn baby, who had Saiyan blood, turned out to be the final piece of the puzzle.
6. Super Saiyan God Is Officially Reborn
The group performed the ritual again, this time with complete concentration. The energy from the five Saiyans merged and flowed into Goku’s body, lifting him into the air. Unlike his previous explosive transformations, this transfer took place in an unusually calm and peaceful manner.
Goku’s hair turned a brilliant shade of red while retaining its familiar shape, marking the official birth of Super Saiyan God. Watching the transformation, Beerus realized that this was the very opponent who had appeared in his prophetic dream, setting the stage for a spectacular battle to come.
