On October 26, Han Jung-soo posted on social media, “A broadcast suspension? Are you crazy? I don’t usually watch dramas, but I’ve really been enjoying Doctor X lately. Thank you.”
In Episode 6, which aired on October 24, Doctor X depicted the story of Oh Sang-beom, played by Ha Seong-gwang, who suffered a gunshot wound during the May 18 Democratization Movement. The character recounted the pain and lasting effects of his experiences during the uprising.
Following the broadcast, heated debates about Doctor X continued across online communities and social media. While some viewers praised the drama for its artistic quality and the message it conveyed, others argued that it had become too heavily influenced by political viewpoints.
On October 25, one viewer even filed a petition through the National Assembly’s electronic petition system calling for the drama to be taken off the air. The petition has since reached the 100-signature threshold required for public consideration.
