Seven years have passed since former f(x) member and actress Sulli (real name Choi Jinri) passed away.
Sulli was found dead at her home in Sujeong-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, on October 14, 2019. She was 25 years old.
At the time, her manager, unable to reach her after a phone call the previous day, visited her home and discovered her, then reported it to the police. A handwritten note expressing her feelings was found at the scene, and the autopsy showed no signs of foul play or criminal suspicion.
Until the day before her death, Sulli was involved in filming a commercial, and she was scheduled for a broadcast shoot on the day she died. The sudden news shocked the entertainment industry, leading to cancellations or postponements of various press conferences and showcases held in her memory.
Born in 1994, Sulli debuted as a child actress through the 2005 SBS drama Ballad of Seodong. She debuted as a member of f(x) in 2009 and was loved for many hit songs such as “LA chA TA,” “Hot Summer,” “Electric Shock,” and “Rum Pum Pum Pum.” She also pursued acting in films like The Pirates and Fashion King.
After leaving f(x) in 2015, she continued her activities as both an actress and singer. She appeared in the 2017 film “Real,” featured in DEAN’s 2018 song “dayfly,” released the single “Goblin” in 2019, and made a special appearance in tvN’s Hotel Del Luna.
In 2023, after her passing, her final work Persona: Sulli premiered at the 28th Busan International Film Festival. Later released on Netflix, Persona: Sulli consists of the short narrative film 4: CLEAN ISLAND and the feature-length documentary Dear Jinri.
In particular, Dear Jinri reveals the concerns and candid feelings Sulli experienced during her youth in the entertainment industry. Four years after her death, her interviews came to light, prompting ongoing tributes from those who missed her.
