Amid controversy over YouTuber Park We‘s KTX fall accident and his continued silence, suspicions have arisen that his family discriminated against his wife, Song Jieun, a former member of the group Secret.
Recently, a video titled “First Chuseok with the In-Laws,” released on Park We’s YouTube channel Weracle in September 2024, was brought back into the spotlight.
The video shows Song Jieun visiting her in-laws’ house for the first holiday since her marriage. Notably, Park We’s father, Park Chan Hong, a former freelance drama PD affiliated with KBS, and actress Yoon So Hee, Park Chan Hong’s adopted daughter, appear together, drawing attention.
Allegations have arisen that Park We’s family treats Song Jieun and Yoon So Hee differently, sparking suspicion of discrimination. Some netizens raised questions based on the tableware used during meals, Park We’s pre-meal prayer order, and family conversations, suggesting that Song Jieun might be relatively marginalized. Conversely, others responded that it is difficult to draw conclusions about family relationships or discrimination based on just a few scenes.
As Yoon So Hee became central to the controversy, her social media was flooded with malicious comments. Some netizens posted remarks like “Is she the sister-in-law?”, “Impressive,” and “Take some awareness,” expressing criticism.
The controversy arose as past content has been reexamined following Park Wi’s recent criticism for releasing footage of a KTX fall accident.
Previously, on August 21, Park We released CCTV footage on his YouTube channel showing him falling with a wheelchair after tripping over the foot of a social service worker while getting off a KTX train. Park We stated, “The social service worker didn’t act intentionally, but I was angry that their foot was placed on the ramp.” It was reported that the social service worker apologized immediately after the accident, and Park We faced criticism for editing and publishing the video.
As the controversy grew, Park We apologized saying, “I failed to consider the position of the worker who did their best to assist me and apologized politely,” and announced the suspension of his YouTube activities. Subsequently, his scheduled lectures were canceled, and he voluntarily resigned from the position of Seoul city public ambassador. He has remained silent since.
