BTS has crossed another major touring milestone. The group’s ongoing Arirang world tour has surpassed $500 million in cumulative ticket sales, making BTS the first pop group to reach that mark with a single tour in Billboard Boxscore history, according to figures reported by Billboard and cited by Yonhap News Agency.
The achievement makes Arirang the seventh tour by any group to exceed $500 million. Billboard noted that the six groups previously reaching the threshold were rock bands, putting BTS in what the publication described as new territory for a pop act.
The figure represents ticket grosses from the current tour. It does not refer to BTS’ total career earnings or include separate revenue from albums, streaming, merchandise, sponsorships or other business connected to the group.
BTS Had a $171.7 Million August
A particularly strong month of touring helped push Arirang beyond the half-billion-dollar mark. BTS performed 12 concerts in August, drawing approximately 800,000 attendees and generating $171.7 million in reported ticket sales, according to Billboard figures cited by Yonhap.
That made August the second-highest-grossing month in Billboard Boxscore history, behind Beyoncé’s August 2023 total. BTS also finished at No. 1 on Billboard’s monthly Top Tours ranking for the fifth time.
The attendance total reflects admissions across the 12 concerts rather than necessarily 800,000 individual people, since fans who attended more than one show would be counted at each performance. The gross also represents reported ticket revenue, not profit. The costs of staging a stadium-scale world tour — including production, staffing, transportation, venue expenses and other costs — are separate from Boxscore’s gross sales figures.
Based on the rounded numbers Billboard reported, the August performances averaged roughly $14.3 million in ticket sales per concert. That calculation illustrates the scale of the month but does not mean each of the 12 shows generated an identical amount.
‘Arirang’ Is BTS’ Largest World Tour
BTS launched the Arirang tour in Goyang, South Korea, on April 9 following the group’s return to full-group activities. Reuters reported when the tour began that the announced itinerary included 82 concerts across 34 cities through March 2027, with stops spanning Asia, North America, Europe, Latin America and Australia. HYBE described it as the largest world tour by a K-pop group in terms of both dates and geographic reach.
The tour follows a period in which BTS members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook pursued individual projects and completed their required South Korean military service. Their return has centered on ARIRANG, BTS’ fifth full-length album.
BigHit Music says the 14-track record was the group’s first album in approximately three years and nine months. The label said all seven members were deeply involved in its songwriting and production, using the project to reflect on their experiences and reconnect musically with ARMY after their time apart.
The album and tour share the Arirang title, but their commercial results are measured separately. Billboard Boxscore tracks concert performance, while album sales and streaming activity fall under different charts and reporting systems.
Could BTS’ Tour Reach $1 Billion?
With roughly 40 concerts still scheduled at the time of Billboard’s latest report, the publication projected that Arirang could eventually reach $1 billion in cumulative ticket revenue. That number remains a projection rather than an achieved result.
The remaining concerts would need to take place and produce enough additional ticket revenue for the tour to reach the billion-dollar threshold. Changes to the schedule, venue capacities, pricing and reported grosses could all affect the final number.
The Billboard projection should also be distinguished from other forecasts surrounding the tour. Earlier this year, Reuters cited an analyst at IBK Investment & Securities who forecast that Arirang could produce 2.7 trillion won — then approximately $1.8 billion — in tour revenue. That was an outside analyst estimate issued around the tour’s launch, not the same calculation as Billboard’s current Boxscore projection.
For now, the confirmed milestone remains $500 million in cumulative reported ticket sales.
BTS Sets a New Pop-Group Touring Benchmark
The achievement extends the scale of BTS’ comeback beyond album charts and streaming numbers. Before Arirang, the group’s last world tour began with Love Yourself in 2018 and was followed by the Love Yourself: Speak Yourself stadium extension. Reuters noted that the earlier run included 42 concerts across 20 cities followed by another 20 stadium dates in 10 cities.
The current tour operates on a substantially larger scale. BTS now has more than $500 million in reported ticket sales from Arirang alone, a record-setting August and dozens of scheduled performances still ahead.
Whether the tour ultimately reaches Billboard’s projected $1 billion mark will depend on the shows yet to be played. But the half-billion-dollar figure is no longer a forecast: according to the latest Boxscore reporting, BTS has already become the first pop group to cross it with a single tour.
