KBS2’s Love in the Moonlight 10th-anniversary special variety show Love in the Moonlight: Redrawn has come to an end after two episodes.
Episode 2 of Love in the Moonlight: Redrawn, which aired on September 23, featured Park Bo Gum, Kim Yoo Jung, Jinyoung, Chae Soo Bin, and Kwak Dong Yeon openly expressing their affection for one another. The five stars looked back on memories from Love in the Moonlight, revisited their decade-long friendship, and promised to remain by each other’s side for the next 10 years. However, the episode recorded a nationwide viewership rating of just 1.1%, down 0.7 percentage points from the first episode.
As a special gift celebrating the drama’s 10th anniversary, Park Bo Gum and Jinyoung performed a duet of “Misty Road,” an OST track from Love in the Moonlight that Jinyoung personally wrote and composed. Despite their busy schedules, the two also participated in arranging the song for the meaningful performance. Watching them on stage brought tears to Kim Yoo Jung’s eyes. She said, “I was touched because I could feel how sincere they were in preparing this performance for us.”
The five cast members then traveled back in time by rewatching their personally selected favorite scenes from Love in the Moonlight. From the memorable “I am Lee Young. That is my name” scene and Ra On’s solo dance to Byung Yeon pointing his sword at Lee Young, Yoon Sung stopping a blade with his hand, and Ha Yeon’s liberating ending, the stars revisited some of the drama’s most memorable moments. Director Kim Sung Yoon, cinematographer Kim Si Hyung, and other staff members who worked on the series also appeared through video messages, bringing back both laughter and memories from 10 years ago.
Special video messages followed from Lee Jun Hyeok, who played Eunuch Jang, Jang Gwang, who portrayed Eunuch Han, and Kim Seung Soo, who played Lee Young’s father. Members of the production team said in unison, “We think we were able to endure the difficult filming conditions because of the energy we received from the actors.” Director Kim Sung Yoon added, “I’m so proud of them and grateful,” expressing his affection for the five stars who have grown considerably over the past decade and have become a source of support for one another.
Just like a memorable scene from the drama, the five cast members wrote down their feelings and affection for one another on sky lanterns before releasing them into the night sky. With the wish, “May all of us remain friends forever,” they reaffirmed their lasting friendship.
A surprise event was also prepared for Kwak Dong Yeon ahead of his military enlistment. A cake decorated with an acrostic poem personally written by Kim Yoo Jung and a special enlistment gift set drew attention. Park Bo Gum, Kim Yoo Jung, Jinyoung, and Chae Soo Bin also presented him with handwritten letters and an album filled with photographs capturing their precious memories from the past 10 years. Kwak Dong Yeon became emotional after seeing the heartfelt gifts from his friends.
Finally, all five stars put on their costumes from 10 years ago and completed their special journey down memory lane by taking a new group poster that had never existed during the drama’s original run. When asked what Love in the Moonlight meant to them, each shared a heartfelt answer. Park Bo Gum described it as “the strength that can carry me through my entire life,” while Chae Soo Bin called it “a bundle of gifts.” Jinyoung described it as “a living memory,” and Kwak Dong Yeon called it “a summer getaway.” Kim Yoo Jung concluded, “Love in the Moonlight is Ra On. The fact that even after 10 years we can still be filled with joy—and laugh together—is true joy and happiness.”
