On September 21, a video titled “You Don’t Age If You Don’t Get Married or Have Children — Is It True?” was uploaded to Baek Ji Yeon’s YouTube channel, Now Baek Ji Yeon.
In the video, Baek Ji Yeon drew attention by saying, “They say women age faster after getting married.”
She continued, “There are so many comments online saying, ‘See, you don’t age if you don’t have children.’” She added, “That’s because men don’t take care of their partners as much as women do. They say marriage helps men live eight years longer thanks to their wives, while women gain five years. That’s a three-year difference.”
Baek Ji Yeon went on to cite research that she said supported the idea. “There was also a study in the United States involving around 730,000 people that found married men diagnosed with cancer had a 20% lower mortality rate,” she said. “In other words, even when married men develop cancer, they have a greater chance of recovery thanks to the support of their wives.”

She continued, “That’s why people keep saying things like this: when a man gets married, he receives a health management service, while for a woman, marriage is the beginning of another job because she has gained someone she needs to take care of.”

However, Baek Ji Yeon also pointed to other research, saying, “A study involving 620,000 people in Asia found that unmarried people had a 62% higher risk of death than married people. The mortality risk among those who had never given birth was also 43% higher than among those who had experienced childbirth.”
She then mentioned comments frequently left under photos of actresses Kim Hye Soo and Uhm Jung Hwa. “When people see great photos of Kim Hye Soo or pictures of Uhm Jung Hwa showing her toned abs after working out so much, they say, ‘See, she doesn’t age because she never had children.’” Baek Ji Yeon stressed that “whether or not you have a baby isn’t the issue,” arguing that what matters more is who you live with and how you choose to live your life.
