Netizens are left baffled.
Idol-turned-actress Suzy has stirred up a major debate after labeling her own visuals as “plain.”

Suzy, widely regarded as the “Nation’s First Love” in Korea, recently spoke about the title in an interview with ELLE magazine.

While talking about the diverse roles she has portrayed in her career, Suzy pondered over her face, revealing that in the past, she couldn’t understand why people thought of their first love while looking at her. Then, someone told her that her face was “ordinary and plain,” making it easy for people to project cinematic emotions.

Suzy took the remark very well, feeling satisfied that she could embody different characters with her face. She added, “As time passes, there are moments when I discover expressions or facets of myself I didn’t know existed. When that happens, I’m truly delighted, and it makes me think that there are still sides of me left to uncover.”
However, netizens were left completely flabbergasted when the actress called her face “ordinary,” prompting vehement objections to the adjective.

- “For most people, aiming for a simple look can easily cross the line into looking frumpy, but Suzy always looks stunning even when she keeps it simple…It’s just that Suzy has a perfect face, so she looks beautiful without heavy styling or makeup; plus, she’s a good actress who blends seamlessly into the story, so people seem to mistake her ability to avoid standing out awkwardly for being ‘ordinary.’”
- “Didn’t she get famous because she was pretty, though?”
- “She’s just effortlessly pretty”
- “‘Elegant’ would be a better fit;
‘Plain’ really doesn’t seem like the right word at all.” - “I do think she has one of those faces that can pull off pretty much anything you put on her, but I wouldn’t really call that plain.”
