On September 9, Starship Entertainment released an official statement, saying, “Among the cases we have been handling through our legal representatives at Kim & Chang, a defendant indicted for crimes including the distribution of false videos targeting our artist was recently sentenced by the court to imprisonment.”
Starship explained that it continues to monitor and take legal action against activities that infringe on the rights of its artists, including the spread of false information, defamation, insults, and sexual harassment online. In particular, the agency said it has taken a firm stance on serious offenses such as the production and distribution of fabricated videos, including filing criminal complaints when necessary. The agency emphasized that it had responded rigorously throughout the investigation and trial and vowed to apply a zero-tolerance policy to serious violations of its artists’ rights and hold those responsible accountable to the very end.
Starship also announced that it had completed the collection of evidence concerning several channels, including so-called “cyber wreckers,” that have repeatedly posted malicious content targeting Jang Won Young, as well as posts and individuals responsible for continuously spreading false information or defamatory material. The agency said it filed additional complaints on September 9 after tracing the distribution routes of malicious posts identified online. The latest complaints cover acts such as repeatedly posting and distributing false claims, distorting portions of recorded footage or adding fabricated information to spread false claims about the artist’s character and behavior, and continuously engaging in malicious defamation and personal attacks.
Starship added that it is continuing to collect evidence regarding cases in which individuals repeatedly post or redistribute the same or similar false claims even after the objective facts have been established, as well as instances where parts of videos are arbitrarily edited or distorted. The agency said it will continue monitoring not only the original creators but also accounts and channels that repeatedly repost such content, and will take necessary civil and criminal legal action. Starship also made clear that these efforts are not limited to a specific case but are part of its ongoing measures to protect the rights and interests of all of its artists.
