On August 26, IU’s YouTube channel ‘이지금 [IU Official]’ released a new video titled “Star, Please Grant My Wish (with bro).” The video showed IU watching the Perseid meteor shower outdoors on August 13. She spontaneously invited her younger brother to join her as they looked up at the night sky together.
IU asked him whether he had ever seen a shooting star before. When he replied that he had not, she asked what his first wish would be if he got the chance to make one. His answer came without hesitation. “My wish is to make more money than you.”
Rather than being surprised, IU responded with her trademark wit. She imagined a parallel universe in which her younger brother, Hoon, earns more money than her, saying that among countless versions of him across different parallel worlds, there must be one who has achieved that goal.
However, IU then reminded him that he should make a wish that a shooting star could actually grant. Her brother quickly changed his wish, asking for 8% of his body fat to disappear before the end of the year.
IU immediately pointed out the flaw in his new wish. “That’s not something the stars can do. That’s something you have to do yourself,” she teased, adding that he seemed not to understand the concept of making a wish. The playful exchange highlighted the natural chemistry between the siblings and gave viewers a glimpse of IU away from her celebrity persona.
While watching the meteor shower, IU also shared a much more heartfelt wish of her own. She said that she could not think of a wish greater than the peace and well-being of her fans, Uaena, and her subscribers. The contrast between her brother’s ambitious wish to out-earn his sister and IU’s heartfelt wish for the people who support her made the moment even more endearing.
The video offered fans a rare glimpse into IU’s ordinary family life. Away from the stage and her acting projects, she appeared relaxed and playful while chatting with her younger brother under the night sky.
IU recently starred in the MBC drama ‘Perfect Crown’ and continues to maintain an active career as both an actress and singer. Her latest YouTube video, however, reminded fans that behind her superstar career, she is also simply an older sister who enjoys teasing her younger brother.
