Actress Min Do Hee, best known for her role in Reply 1994, has shared that she has been searching for part-time work during a break from acting, prompting mixed reactions from viewers online.
On the July 26 episode of SBS’s variety show My Little Old Boy, Min Do Hee was shown contacting several cafés in hopes of finding a part-time job. Despite her efforts, she was repeatedly turned down.
Later in the episode, actors Baro and Kim Sung Kyun visited Min Do Hee’s home, where they caught up and talked about her recent life. During the conversation, Baro brought up fellow actor Son Ho Jun, revealing that he became emotional after hearing she was working part-time.
Min Do Hee recalled the moment, saying, “We had a spontaneous get-together after I finished my shift. When they asked what I had been doing, I said I had just come from my part-time job. Ho Jun oppa had been drinking a little, but he suddenly said, ‘Why do you have to work a part-time job?’ and started crying.” She added, “Seeing him cry made me tear up too.”
Following the broadcast, viewers expressed sharply divided opinions.
Some criticized the emotional exchange, writing comments such as, “Why would someone cry over working at a café?”, “If acting isn’t paying the bills, getting a part-time job is perfectly normal,” “Celebrities always seem to turn hardships into emotional stories,” “Saying ‘Why are you working part-time?’ sounds disrespectful to everyone who has a regular part-time job,” and “She’s still getting paid for appearing on variety shows.”
Others, however, defended both Min Do Hee and Son Ho Jun. Supportive comments noted that it is difficult to maintain confidence when work in your primary profession disappears, and praised her willingness to keep working instead of giving up. Many also said they hoped she would soon land another successful acting project, while others argued that Son Ho Jun’s reaction simply reflected genuine concern for a longtime colleague rather than any disrespect toward part-time workers.
