DAY6 member Young K is making his solo comeback with his second full-length album YOUNGEST, offering fans a closer look at both the confident performer Young K and the person behind the name, Kang Young Hyun.
Young K will release YOUNGEST on July 27 at 6 PM, nearly two years and 10 months after his first full-length solo album. The new release marks his return as a singer-songwriter who continues to tell stories about different moments and emotions in life.
During a round interview held on July 22 at JW Marriott Dongdaemun in Seoul, Young K explained that the album title was inspired by the word “young” in his name, AllKPop reported.
Through the album, he wanted to explore what represents him the most and share his most personal side with listeners.
The album title YOUNGEST uses the English superlative ending “-est,” showing Young K’s goal of creating music that feels like his strongest and most authentic expression. He also took part in writing all 15 tracks, highlighting his dedication as a musician.
Young K shared that the album focuses on the difference between his stage identity and his real self. He described “Young K” as his polished and confident image, while “Kang Young Hyun” represents the more honest side of himself, including his weaknesses, imperfections, and childhood emotions.
Young K Reflects on DAY6’s Journey
The singer also reflected on DAY6’s long journey before reaching major stages.
He remembered the group’s early days of performing on streets, busking, and holding concerts at small venues in Hongdae. He explained that those moments felt less like pressure and more like a way to survive as musicians.
After years of success, including performances at large venues such as Gocheok Sky Dome and Goyang Sports Complex, Young K said he has learned to pay more attention to himself. He revealed that he used to ignore his own struggles while trying to appear calm.
Young K explained that he now takes time to ask himself more questions and care for his personal life. He even shared that he hopes to enjoy simple experiences after his solo activities, including taking his first trip to a resort.
The album’s title track, “Shut The Door,” carries a message about protecting one’s heart and listening to inner feelings. Young K explained that closing the door is not about giving up but about choosing to focus on himself.
According to TheChosun, ahead of the album release, Young K also held a surprise busking event in Seoul, where he performed new songs including “F World,” “Yonge St.,” “Heading Home,” and “Shut The Door.”
