Nam Joo Hyuk is set to return to the crime genre as the lead of Disney+’s upcoming original series “Code,” marking another major project after his successful comeback in Netflix’s “East Palace.”
Disney+ confirmed on July 23 that Nam will star alongside Lee Yi Dam, Kim Eui Sung, and Park Hoon in the mystery crime thriller, which is scheduled to premiere next year.
“Code” follows a lawyer whose desire for success leads him to cross legal and moral lines. His life changes after he receives an invitation to a mysterious app called “Code,” which grants users’ wishes.
As the story unfolds, the app pulls him into a dangerous world driven by greed and ambition.
Nam will play Yoon Tae Joo, a former prosecutor’s investigator who becomes a lawyer with one goal: earning a partner position at one of South Korea’s top law firms, AllKPop reported.
When he discovers the mysterious app, his ambition pushes him deeper into risky choices. The role is expected to reveal a darker and more determined side of the actor, offering fans a fresh performance in a suspense-filled setting.
Nam Joo Hyuk Takes on Dark New Role
Lee Yi Dam stars as Park Ji Dam, a prosecutor from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office who investigates a string of cases tied to the app.
Her complicated history with Yoon Tae Joo creates constant conflict as they search for the truth. Kim Eui Sung joins the cast as Jo Chul Ho, a North Korean defector and skilled hacker, while Park Hoon plays violent crimes detective Lim Chang Jae. Together, the two help Yoon Tae Joo navigate the dangerous mystery.
The series will be directed by Yoo Soo Min, known for “Weak Hero Class 1” and “Weak Hero Class 2.” His previous work earned praise for intense action scenes and engaging storytelling, making “Code” one of Disney+’s most anticipated crime dramas. The announcement comes as Nam continues to enjoy worldwide attention through “East Palace.”
According to ChosunBiz, the fantasy action series recorded 4.9 million views within three days of release, reached No. 2 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Shows, topped Korea’s daily Top 10 list, and entered the Top 10 rankings in 27 countries, including the Philippines, Thailand, Hong Kong, and India.
