Shin Bong Sun has honestly shared her worries about marriage, aging, and preparing for life alone, drawing attention for her realistic and relatable comments about the future.
The comedian recently appeared as a special MC on My Little Old Boy, where she spoke openly about relationships and retirement planning. During the episode, fellow television personality Seo Jang Hoon mentioned that Shin Bong Sun’s last relationship was during her 30s and joked that blind dates seemed to stop after she turned 40.
Responding honestly, Shin Bong Sun said that even in her younger years, she was often introduced as someone with a “cute but not-so-pretty” image, AllKPop reported.
She added that after entering her 40s, even those comments started to feel uncomfortable. She also revealed how her view of herself has changed over time. “I think, if I had to categorize myself, I’m neither man nor woman—I just feel like a human being,” she shared.
The 47-year-old entertainer admitted that marriage no longer feels like something she can force. “If marriage is something that one can do alone, I would try hard,” she explained. “But marriage is something you still have to win over another person’s heart, and that felt like a waste of time.”
Shin Bong Sun Talks About Pressure to Get Married
Shin Bong Sun also revealed that she has already started preparing financially for her future. She shared that a pension savings plan she paid into for 10 years, beginning in her late 20s, has recently matured. According to her, she contributed 1 million won each month over that period.
“I’m looking into different things,” she said. “I’m practicing living alone in a fun and enjoyable way.”
The comedian also spoke about the pressure she sometimes feels from people around her, including family.
While talking about her mother, Shin Bong Sun humorously recalled how her advice about marriage changed over the years. At first, her mother encouraged her to marry someone kind, but later jokingly questioned who could handle her personality. She even suggested egg freezing at one point, which made Shin Bong Sun laugh because she misunderstood the meaning.
According to The Chosun, outside the TV broadcast, Shin Bong Sun recently discussed similar concerns in a YouTube video with comedian Kim In Seok.
She admitted that meeting new people has become difficult because many around her are younger or already married. She also confessed that some people assume she cannot marry because of her appearance.
