On April 3, the Seoul Southern District Court, Criminal Division 12 (Presiding Judge Park Jong-yeol) ruled that Kwon’s actions violated the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, including embezzlement and breach of trust.
The court stated, “Using company resources for personal gain as a controlling figure is socially unacceptable and cannot be considered a minor offense. Even a single-person company can cause unexpected harm to others involved, requiring stricter oversight.”
However, the court also acknowledged that Kwon admitted to the charges and that all damages were restored through repayment or deposits.
Kwon was accused of using approximately 4 billion KRW of Hook Entertainment funds between 2012 and 2022 for private purposes, including furniture purchases and insurance payments. He was indicted in October of last year.
In addition, Kwon is facing a separate trial for allegedly obtaining prescription sleep medication illegally through an employee. During his 18-year tenure at Hook Entertainment, he also had disputes with singer-actor Lee Seung-gi over settlement payments.
