New controversy is emerging around former BIGBANG member Seungri as South Korean authorities signal the possibility of revisiting the infamous Burning Sun scandal.
The renewed attention comes after the arrest and prosecution of alleged drug king Park Wang-yeol. During a press briefing on April 2, police stated they are conducting an intensive investigation into Park’s network, emphasizing that any confirmed links to the Burning Sun case will be pursued under strict legal standards.
Originally launched in 2018 in Seoul’s Gangnam district, Burning Sun became one of South Korea’s most notorious scandals, involving allegations of drug distribution, sexual crimes, and suspected police collusion. Seungri, who was involved in the club’s operations, was later convicted on charges including facilitating prostitution.

Amid the possibility of a reinvestigation, Seungri’s recent activities overseas have drawn renewed scrutiny. According to reports cited by journalists, he has allegedly been seen associating with individuals linked to financial crimes, including money laundering and illegal gambling networks in Southeast Asia.
Some claims go further, suggesting that Seungri may have explored business opportunities in Cambodia that resemble a “second Burning Sun.” These allegations, however, remain unverified and are based on third-party reports rather than official findings.
Observers note that although Seungri has effectively been pushed out of the Korean entertainment industry, he may still be leveraging his former fame in regions such as Japan and Southeast Asia. Reports also indicate that he frequently travels between countries like Thailand and Cambodia, with occasional visits back to South Korea.

At this stage, authorities have not confirmed any direct connection between Seungri and the ongoing investigation into Park Wang-yeol. However, with police leaving the door open for a broader probe, the situation continues to evolve.
As one of K-pop’s most high-profile scandals resurfaces, public attention is once again focused on whether new evidence could reshape the narrative surrounding Burning Sun—and whether previously implicated figures could face renewed scrutiny.
