NewJeans has come under scrutiny after announcing an extension of its official fanclub membership during a sensitive time involving Danielle.
According to the group’s official notice, all members holding an active “Bunnies Membership” as of 11 a.m. on March 25 (KST) will automatically receive a 365-day extension. The new period will be added directly to their remaining time, and users can check the updated status on Weverse starting at 12 p.m. the same day.
Notably, the extension is applied entirely automatically, requiring no additional action from users. However, new subscribers are not eligible for this benefit and will continue to receive the standard one-year membership period.
The agency explained that the move is intended to express appreciation for the continued support of global fans, while also allowing them to maintain access to exclusive benefits such as behind-the-scenes content, special events, and other perks.

However, the announcement quickly sparked heated debate within the fandom. Some fans welcomed the extension, viewing it as a gesture of gratitude from the company.
On the other hand, many criticized the timing of the decision. The backlash stems from ongoing controversy surrounding Danielle, who has reportedly been removed from the group by the agency, leaving the lineup in question.
Across online forums, fans voiced concerns such as “NewJeans isn’t complete without all members,” and called on the company to clarify Danielle’s situation before making decisions affecting the fan community. Some even questioned the value of extending memberships when the group’s future activities remain uncertain.
Meanwhile, the agency also noted that if users cancel or delete their accounts after receiving the extension, the benefits cannot be restored prompting some fans to think carefully before making decisions regarding their accounts.
