A new wave of controversy is surrounding global girl group KATSEYE after alleged social media comments from the father of member Daniela Avanzini resurfaced online — just as member Manon Bannerman announced an indefinite hiatus from group activities.

On February 21, Manon’s temporary withdrawal was officially confirmed. The singer later addressed fans on Weverse to reassure them. However, instead of calming the situation, tensions escalated when a viral video circulated with the headline: “IT’S OFFICIAL MANON IS LEAVING KATSEYE INDEFINITELY.”

Under that video, a Facebook account believed by netizens to belong to Rafael Avanzini — Daniela’s father — allegedly commented: “THE SHOW MUST GO ON! With or without a member. KATSEYE IS BIGGER THAN ONE GIRL.” The remark quickly drew mixed reactions, with some criticizing it as insensitive given the sensitive timing.

The controversy deepened when another alleged comment from the same account surfaced. During a discussion comparing Daniela’s dance skills to those of Lisa from BLACKPINK, the account reportedly wrote: “If you have to ask DANIELA! Much better trained. Plus she’s also Latina, major advantage against Asian dancers. Her hips r untouchable.”

The statement was widely condemned for its perceived racial undertones and disrespectful comparison. Many social media users labeled the comment “highly problematic” and “unacceptable,” sharing screenshots across platforms such as X. Others, however, urged the public not to direct anger toward Daniela herself, noting that the alleged remarks — if authentic — reflect the personal views of a family member, not the artist.
Some fans also argued that the comments targeting both Manon and Lisa carried discriminatory implications. Speculation intensified after Manon was reportedly seen “liking” an Instagram post discussing racism and unfair treatment toward women of color in the industry.

Amid growing backlash, the group’s managing companies, HYBE and Geffen Records, released a joint statement expressing full support for Manon’s decision to pause activities. The statement emphasized that KATSEYE remains committed to unity and to their global fanbase.

As of now, neither Daniela Avanzini nor Rafael Avanzini has issued an official response regarding the circulating comments. Meanwhile, the situation continues to attract widespread attention online — particularly as KATSEYE works to promote a message of cultural diversity and global representation in their lineup.
Whether further clarification will be provided remains to be seen, but the incident has undeniably sparked broader conversations about sensitivity, representation and accountability in today’s interconnected music industry.
