Long regarded as one of Hong Kong’s top beauty icons, Gillian Chung—also known as a member of the popular duo Twins alongside Charlene Choi—has enjoyed major success in both music and acting. At 45, she is reportedly worth more than HKD 100 million (approximately $12.8 million), owning several luxury properties, including a spacious apartment in Beijing.
Despite her financial success, her personal life has been marked by turbulence. She has experienced multiple high-profile breakups, endured the unauthorized release of private photos in the past, and divorced her former husband, doctor Michael Lai, in 2021.

Recently, during an appearance on the program Amazing Friends, Gillian Chung spoke openly about her long-held wish to have a child of her own. She admitted that her dream of motherhood now feels increasingly out of reach due to health concerns and age-related challenges.
“I’ve always hoped to have a child to keep me company, but it’s very difficult now,” she said. “I’m approaching 50, and I understand that giving birth at this age comes with many risks. On top of that, getting pregnant isn’t easy. My doctor told me that for women aged 45, the natural conception rate is less than 1%, and even IVF success rates are only around 15%. This biological barrier feels like the biggest mountain in front of me. Still, I hope for a miracle.”

In the past, the actress proactively froze her eggs as preparation for motherhood. However, during her brief marriage, that wish never materialized as the relationship eventually ended. Industry sources have also claimed that when she was younger, she once conceived twins while dating businessman Qin Fen but unfortunately suffered a miscarriage.
Currently, her chances of pregnancy are considered slim. She has reportedly struggled with liver issues linked to long-term alcohol consumption, as well as weight fluctuations and hormonal imbalances caused by stress. Since 2025, Gillian Chung has been making efforts to quit drinking and adopt a healthier lifestyle, including improving her diet and exercise routine, in hopes of restoring her health.
Beyond her music career, Gillian Chung has also built a solid acting résumé, appearing in dramas and films such as Secret History of Empress Wu, Swords of Legends, Project A, and The Twins Effect.
