Comedian Yang Se Hyung addressed the controversy over his qualifications for an audition show.
On the 25th, the production presentation for MBN’s audition program Unnamed Legend – The Hierarchy War of Trot Men was held at the Stanford Hotel Grand Ballroom in Sangam, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Regarding concerns about a non-singer participating as a judge, Yang Se Hyung said, “My profession is a comedian. It would be absurd for me to dare evaluate singing.”
However, he added, “What audition programs and entertainers ultimately need most is the ability to win people’s hearts. I have worked hard to connect with audiences through countless performances. I believe my role is to observe how well contestants communicate with the audience, interact on stage, and skillfully carry out their performances.”
Singer Lim Han Byul, who also joined as a judge, explained his reason for participating in the trot audition. He said, “I thought long and hard when I first received the offer, wondering if I could be of any help. But in the end, a public singer’s role is to move people’s hearts.”
He went on, “While idol auditions feel like products with somewhat established answers, trot is captivating because it contains diverse life stories. Each contestant’s personal narrative is alive, which makes this program distinctive from others.”
Unnamed Legend is a massive trot survival competition where 99 contestants, including 81 unknown challengers and 18 well-known ones, compete for a single throne. The first broadcast airs on the 25th at 9:40 PM.
