Open discussions about sexuality remain relatively rare in the K-pop industry, which is why even casual remarks from idols can quickly spark widespread attention. Recently, former TOZ member Haruto found himself at the center of online discussion following comments that suggested he is open to liking both men and women.
Haruto first gained international recognition in 2023 through Mnet’s survival program Boys Planet, which formed the group ZEROBASEONE. Although he did not debut in the final lineup, his popularity led to his debut in the project group TOZ under YY Entertainment, alongside Anthonny, Yuto, and Takuto. The group later entered a period of inactivity before officially disbanding.

After stepping away from idol activities, Haruto recently returned to the spotlight by announcing plans to lead dance classes in the coming year and by becoming more active again on social media. His reappearance alone drew excitement from fans but it was a recent interview clip that truly ignited conversation.
In a casual, impromptu interview with internet personality Kole (@tokyo simspage), Haruto was asked about his “type.” He responded that “anything is okay.” When Kole followed up by asking, “Guys too?”, Haruto nodded and agreed. The moment was delivered in a lighthearted, joking tone, with the rest of the clip playfully implying feelings toward a friend.
The short video quickly spread across TikTok and other platforms, prompting speculation and debate among fans. Some interpreted Haruto’s response as an admission that he is attracted to both men and women, while others emphasized that the interaction appeared informal and possibly staged, noting that Kole’s content is sometimes scripted. As of now, Haruto has not issued any official statement clarifying his remarks.
Rather than shock, many fans expressed surprise simply at seeing Haruto active again after a long hiatus, welcoming his return and praising his openness and relaxed demeanor. Others stressed the importance of not assigning labels or making assumptions based on a brief, playful exchange.

In an industry where idols are often tightly controlled in how they present themselves, Haruto’s comments intentional or not have reignited conversations about personal freedom, identity, and the evolving relationship between K-pop idols and their global audiences.
As discussions continue, many fans have called for respect and restraint, emphasizing that any interpretation should ultimately be left to Haruto himself.
