At the 2025 Melon Music Awards held at Gocheok Sky Dome on December 20, G-Dragon made headlines for an unexpected moment during his performance.
After receiving the Best Songwriter award and being named one of the Melon Millions Top 10 for his first solo album in eight years, G-Dragon expressed heartfelt thanks to his global fans. “My world tour ended here just last week. I’m grateful to be receiving such an award so soon after, and I want to share this honor with global fans who support Korean artists,” he said.

He then took to the stage to perform “Power” and “Home Sweet Home”, followed by one of his biggest hits, “Crooked”. As the crowd cheered, G-Dragon left the main stage and made his way to the artist seating area, engaging with fans and fellow idols.
In a moment that caught everyone off guard, G-Dragon handed the microphone to Zico, who was seated nearby. Despite the surprise, Zico smoothly picked up the song and continued the performance. In return, G-Dragon draped his scarf around Zico’s neck as a sign of gratitude.

However, reactions online were divided. Some netizens commented, “Is this my team leader at a company dinner?”, “You can’t just throw the mic mid-live,” and “Maybe it was a pre-agreed performance.” While some admired the spontaneity and camaraderie, others questioned the professionalism of handing off a live performance without notice.
This moment also reignited discussions about G-Dragon’s recent live performance controversy during his world tour, which he briefly addressed during his concert last week. His surprise move at MMA 2025 has sparked new debate about expectations for live stages and artist conduct in high-profile award ceremonies.
