On December 4, singer Ailee appeared on the YouTube channel Go-eun Unni, sharing updates on her life and reflecting on her past alongside fellow Korean-American actress Han Go-eun.
Ailee recalled, “After uploading a video to YouTube 18 years ago, I started receiving attention and was asked many times to come audition in Korea. Some even came to New Jersey to see me.”
Ailee initially gained recognition in 2007 after posting a cover of Whitney Houston on her YouTube channel, which went viral in the U.S. She even appeared on NBC’s The Murray Show.
In 2011, Ailee moved to Korea and officially debuted in 2012. She said, “I loved Korean culture so much, and being active in Korea made me very happy. But while I was Korean in the U.S., coming to Korea made me feel like a foreigner. Living in Korea was amazing, but there were moments I felt like an outsider and a minority.”

Ailee debuted simultaneously as a singer and actress in 2012, appearing in KBS drama Dream High and releasing her first single Heaven, which made a significant impact on the music scene. She followed up with I Will Show You in 2013, solidifying her rise to stardom.
Currently, Ailee continues to actively release albums and hold concerts. In April, she married actor-turned-singer Choi Si-hoon. The couple had legally registered their marriage the previous year before their official wedding.
Ailee is set to hold her year-end concert on December 24 at Seoul’s KBS Arena, giving fans a chance to see her perform live.
