Amid the somber atmosphere of the 2025 MAMA Awards in Hong Kong, RIIZE delivered one of the evening’s most heartfelt moments, with member Anton (Lee Chan-young) moving the audience with a fluent Cantonese speech in memory of victims from the recent Hong Kong apartment fire tragedy.

The boy group was awarded Fan’s Choice Daesang, one of the event’s top honors. While accepting the award, Anton took the mic and addressed the crowd entirely in Cantonese—an act that deeply resonated with the local audience.
“Thank you. More importantly, we understand that many people are going through a very painful time right now,” he said solemnly. “Although we receive this award with calm hearts today, we want to dedicate our deepest strength and support to all those who need comfort and send our most sincere concern.”
His respectful tone and precise pronunciation stunned viewers, sparking praise across social media platforms:
- “He truly respects Hong Kong,”
- “His Cantonese is so thoughtful,”
- “Anton’s message was genuinely sincere.”
Beyond words, the entire RIIZE lineup wore black mourning ribbons on their outfits, silently honoring the victims and families affected by the tragedy.
The awards show began with host Park Bo Gum leading the venue in a 30-second moment of silence, stating, “Though this return to Hong Kong was highly anticipated, we mourn with heavy hearts after learning of the devastating fire.”
The Hong Kong disaster, which occurred at a public housing estate in Tai Po, reportedly claimed the lives of at least 128 people, with more still missing. In response, this year’s MAMA Awards adjusted its usual celebratory tone—red carpets were canceled, cheering was discouraged, and a “Support Hong Kong” tribute was included.
