The level-5 fire that broke out on November 26 at the Wong Fuk residential complex in Tai Po District, Hong Kong (China), has left both local citizens and the international community in shock. As of the evening of November 27, at least 55 people had been confirmed dead, with hundreds still missing. Although the blaze at Wang Fuk Court has been partially contained, flames continue to smolder inside the buildings. The incident is considered the most devastating residential fire Hong Kong (China) has seen in many years.
According to HK01, two artists former Miss Hong Kong Toby Chan and art director–costume designer Cheung Man, a six-time Hong Kong Film Awards nominee were reported to have lost family homes and property in the fire. The damaged properties belonged to Toby Chan’s grandmother and Cheung Man’s grandfather. Fortunately, their relatives managed to escape safely before the blaze engulfed the buildings.

Amid the overwhelming grief spreading across the city, many top Hong Kong entertainment figures have expressed deep condolences to the affected households those who lost family members and those whose lifelong savings were reduced to ashes. Beyond offering sympathy, stars such as Nicholas Tse, Michelle Yeoh, Chow Yun-fat, Jessica Hsuan, G.E.M., Charlene Choi, Esther Kwan, Hins Cheung, Charmaine Sheh, and many others have joined hands to donate money, provide aid, and deliver essential goods to residents of the eight burned residential blocks many of whom are now homeless overnight.

Actor Eddie Kwan volunteered to drive trucks transporting necessities, blankets, pillows, and clothing to temporary shelters set up by the government for thousands of residents displaced by the disaster. Actress Jeannie Chiang urged the public to stay safe and announced that her family’s restaurant would remain open all night to provide free food and drinks to victims of the fire.

On November 27, numerous artists and event organizers also announced cancellations and postponements of entertainment activities in the wake of the tragedy. Broadcaster TVB suspended several entertainment programs, deeming them inappropriate during this period of mourning.
Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh also canceled their planned appearances at the MAMA Awards, scheduled to be held in Hong Kong (China) on November 28–29. MAMA organizers announced the red carpet would be canceled, the show would open with a one-minute moment of silence, and all flame or celebration-themed effects would be removed. The broadcast schedule for MAMA 2025 has also been delayed, replacing the originally planned live broadcast.
