In a heartwarming display of national pride and fan adoration, TWICE member Tzuyu returned to Taiwan with her group for their first concert on her home soil in over a decade. The event wasn’t just another stop on the group’s tour — it turned into a national celebration, complete with an official welcome from former Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, broadcast on national television.
“These past two days, my feed has been filled with posts about TWICE,” wrote Tsai Ing-wen on social media, reflecting on the overwhelming buzz surrounding the concerts. “Though I wasn’t there in person, I felt like I was part of the crowd.”
For many fans, known as ONCE, the concerts were an emotional milestone. Tzuyu, who debuted with TWICE in 2015, had not held a solo performance in Taiwan since her debut. Her return, marked by cheering fans and sold-out shows in Kaohsiung, was met with national joy.
Tsai praised the effort of Mayor Chen Chi-mai and local authorities for managing the massive influx of fans. With over 350,000 people using Kaohsiung’s subway system — a record for the year — officials managed a complete crowd dispersal within just 90 minutes, a feat in itself.
The former President continued, “Tzuyu’s return isn’t just about a concert. It symbolizes how many Taiwanese shine in their respective fields, showing the world who we are.”
TWICE’s Taiwan concerts proved more than just a musical success. They reignited conversations about cultural identity, youth success stories, and the global influence of K-pop idols like Tzuyu, who remain deeply rooted in their heritage while dazzling the world stage.
