South Korean singer and entrepreneur Jessica Jung has found herself at the center of a legal firestorm, as reports surface that she is being sued for a staggering 13.1 million RMB (approx. NT$58.15 million / USD $1.84 million ) over an alleged breach of commercial contract.
According to a court announcement issued by the Yuhang District People’s Court in Hangzhou on March 13, Jessica is being sued by Hangzhou Xuanbu Network Technology Co., Ltd. for allegedly failing to fulfill contractual obligations related to a series of business activities in China.
Due to the plaintiff being unable to reach Jessica directly, the court served her notice via a public announcement. The lawsuit demands a refund of a 10 million RMB advance payment , plus an additional 3 million RMB in penalties and 100,000 RMB in legal fees . The court hearing is scheduled for August 19, 2025 .
Jessica gained renewed attention in China after participating in the popular reality show Sisters Who Make Waves Season 3 in 2022, where she reached the finals and re-established her career presence in the mainland. The partnership with the suing company allegedly stemmed from this resurgence.

However, the recent allegations claim she failed to appear or fulfill promotional responsibilities agreed upon in the deal—an accusation her agency firmly denies.
In response, Jessica’s management agency Coridel Entertainment issued an official statement via Weibo, categorically rejecting the claims. The accusations are completely fabricated and have no factual basis,” the company stated. This false information, which includes malicious slander, personal attacks, and misleading associations, has severely damaged the artist’s reputation and mental well-being.”

The agency further confirmed that legal steps are already underway, with attorneys collecting evidence to pursue appropriate action against defamatory content.
The case has sparked discussion among Chinese and Korean netizens, with some expressing concern over celebrities navigating legal boundaries across markets. Meanwhile, Jessica has remained silent on the matter publicly.
Whether this legal battle will impact her future engagements in China remains to be seen, especially with the court proceedings set for late 2025.
