According to a Hollywood Reporter article published on November 6 (local time), Netflix granted Sony Pictures a bonus of approximately $15 million (around 21.9 billion KRW) as reward tied to the film’s global performance.
This additional payment pushes Sony Pictures’ total profit from the project to about $40 million (approx. 58.2 billion KRW). Notably, this figure is in addition to the $100 million production cost (around 145.4 billion KRW) and a separate $25 million (about 36.4 billion KRW) previously received from Netflix.

Further exciting news came with the announcement that Netflix and Sony Pictures have signed a deal for a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters, slated for release in 2029. According to Variety, the extended timeline reflects the lengthy production process typical of animated features.
Originally, KPop Demon Hunters was intended for theatrical release. However, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global cinema markets, prompting Sony Pictures to sell the distribution rights to Netflix in 2021.

Netflix premiered the animated feature globally in June this year, and the response was nothing short of explosive—it surpassed 300 million views, making it the most-watched Netflix film to date.
The film’s OST also achieved phenomenal success. The track Golden not only topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 but also hit No.1 on the UK Official Singles Chart simultaneously.
Adding to the accolades, Golden was nominated in five categories at the prestigious Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year.
