A famous variety show producer (PD), identified only as A, has been accused of sexual harassment by a junior production staff member, sparking shock across the broadcasting industry.
According to a Korea Economic Daily report on October 31, the alleged victim a staff member B who was preparing a new season of a popular variety program with PD A filed a formal complaint with the Mapo Police Station in Seoul this August.
In the complaint, B claimed that during an after-work dinner gathering, PD A made unwanted physical contact, which she explicitly rejected. Afterward, B alleges that A verbally humiliated her and later removed her from the production team.
Attorney Lee Eun-ui, representing the victim, stated:
“The victim suffered significant emotional distress and professional damage. She initially sought resolution within the company, but due to insufficient internal measures, she was left with no choice but to file a police report.”
The broadcasting company reportedly conducted an internal investigation into the incident. The results acknowledged part of the sexual harassment allegations but did not recognize the claims of workplace bullying or retaliation.
However, PD A has denied all charges, insisting that the incident was a misunderstanding. Both sides have since filed objections to the company’s findings, meaning the case will now undergo further review by relevant authorities.
“PD A maintains that there was no coercive or inappropriate contact. He intends to fully cooperate with the investigation to clarify the facts,” a source familiar with the situation said.
The allegations have reignited discussions in the Korean entertainment industry about power dynamics and gender sensitivity in production settings, where strict hierarchies often discourage victims from speaking out.
While the company involved has not disclosed whether PD A’s current projects will be suspended, insiders note that this case could have a major impact on upcoming variety program schedules, especially given the PD’s long-standing reputation in the field.
As of now, police are continuing their investigation, and no formal charges have been confirmed. Both parties remain under review.
